Cygnet's beautiful 1905 hull suffered serious
movement of plank seams when sailed after being
endowed with an equally beautiful, but much more
powerful gaff yawl rig. The increased loads
generated by the rig were literally pulling her
apart from garboard to sheer plank. We built
laminate oak ring frames and bronze strapping in
conjunction with a new main mast step
fabrication also in bronze, to enable her to
cope with her extra horsepower and continue to
take part in the Old Gaffers Association racing
without the previous anxiety for her owner Kim
Hartley and his crew! |
